Tackle these three simple DIY projects to help the earth this Earth Day. (Bonus – they’ll save you money, too!)
Get Smart! Vampire power – the electronics that suck energy even when they’re not in use – account for more than $10 billion per year in avoidable energy costs. Slash these energy hogs by unplugging devices then they’re not in use or – better yet – plug your electronics into smart outlets that you can program to shut off at a specific time.
Stop the Drops. Check faucets throughout the home for drips that are wasting water. While you’re at it, install aerators at each faucet and showerhead. This inexpensive gadget consists of a screen that you place at the opening of your faucet. The screen breaks the water flowing through your pipes into smaller streams, reducing the amount of water you use – and paying you back with savings on your water bill.
Storm Door Warning. An improper seal on your exterior storm door can let in drafts and water. Check to see if harsh winter weather has loosened or damaged the door bottom seal on your storm door and if so, install a new one, like Frost King’s easy-to-install Adjustable Door Bottom for Storm Doors.
